IGP I'm Alive Because You're One Of Those Who Kept Me Alive When I Was Under House Arrest -Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has disclosed that while he was under house arrest in 1995, a number of individuals stood out for their efforts in protecting him and ensuring his survival.

He specifically mentioned Olatunji Disu, the current Inspector-General of Police, as one of those who played a vital role during that challenging period.

In a video circulated by TV Platinum, Obasanjo said he considered it necessary to publicly appreciate Disu for his actions, stressing that recognition was long overdue.

He noted that acknowledging such contributions is important, especially when they had a direct impact on preserving his life.

Beyond reflecting on the past, Obasanjo also addressed Nigeria’s current security challenges. He reiterated his support for the creation of state police, arguing that a decentralized policing system would significantly improve security operations.

According to him, state-based officers would be more familiar with their environments and therefore more effective in tackling crimes and responding promptly to emerging threats.

Obasanjo concluded by expressing deep gratitude, remarking that Disu’s involvement during his detention might have been a key factor in his continued existence today.
