Veteran Nigerian actor, filmmaker, and entrepreneur, Ricardo Agbor, has opened up about a defining moment in his early life that shifted his focus from trading to pursuing a career in acting.
Speaking during an interview on Ayo Adesanya TV on Thursday, November 6, 2025, the Nollywood star reflected on his early ventures in business before fame, revealing that he once traded in gold jewelry before a devastating robbery changed everything.
When asked to elaborate on his reference to “gold,” Agbor explained: “I used to go buy gold chains and come back and sell. I was at some point, 1991–1992. It was fine, until around 1992, I got robbed at the border. Yes, I got robbed at the border and I came back, I cried and all that. I cried. When I cry, it’s not like me shedding tears but it was really painful. Yeah, it was a lot of money. I don’t know the equivalent, but it was a lot of money then.”
He went on to recount how the robbery took place between Nigeria and Cotonou, describing the helplessness of the situation:
“It was in between Nigeria and Cotonou and the customs were there, they were watching, so I wouldn’t really want to go into all that because I think there was a whole lot of… because you could see the Nigerians getting robbed by the Jandams or what do you call them.”
Agbor revealed that the incident made him reassess his priorities and ultimately led him to focus on a career path where his personal talents could thrive:
“And so I just looked at it, I felt okay, let me just stick to this one which my ability could produce regardless of…” When asked if he was referring to movies, the actor confirmed: “Yeah.”
