The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 43-year-old man, Amadin Williams, in connection with the alleged killing of his childhood friend, Eghosa Osas, during a housewarming party in the state.

Police confirmed the arrest on Sunday, stating that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be charged to court once the inquiry is concluded.

According to information made available to journalists, the incident occurred at Oben Community, where friends and family had gathered to celebrate the victim’s return to Nigeria and the opening of his new home.

Sources said Eghosa Osas had recently returned from abroad with his family to spend the Christmas season in Nigeria. The housewarming event was meant to be a joyful reunion, but it reportedly ended in tragedy.

A source familiar with the incident said the victim was attacked by Amadin Williams, who had been his close friend since childhood.

The reason for the disagreement that led to the incident has not yet been established.

“I can confirm that Eghosa Osas, aged 43, lost his life during the incident,” the source said.

“He had just returned from overseas to celebrate Christmas with his family when the attack happened at his housewarming party.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in Edo State, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the case and said it was reported by the victim’s elder brother.

According to the police account, the victim had stepped away from the gathering briefly when the suspect allegedly confronted him. The victim later sustained fatal injuries.

“The report is true,” Ikoedem said.

“The suspect, identified as Amadin Williams, who is believed to be the victim’s childhood friend, has been arrested and is currently in police custody.”

She added that detectives are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and what may have led to the fatal confrontation.

“The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the police spokesperson said.

The incident has shocked residents of Oben Community and other parts of Edo State, with many expressing sadness over the loss of a life during what was meant to be a celebration.

The case comes amid broader efforts by the Edo State Police Command to tackle violent crime across the state.

Police authorities recently disclosed that hundreds of suspects were arrested in 2025 for various offences, including murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, cult-related activities, and other serious crimes.

Security agencies have continued to urge residents to resolve disputes peacefully and report suspicious behaviour early to prevent violence.

As investigations continue, police say more details will be made public in line with the law.
