Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has launched an accusation against the Federal Government, alleging the use of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for political persecution.
The allegation follows reports linking him to a terrorism financing case currently before a court.
According to a report by Daily Trust TV, Governor Mohammed expressed outrage over the allegations, which he learned of upon waking.
“I was just waking up to the allegation where I am being accused of terrorism,” he stated, revealing that his Finance Commissioner had been detained.
Despite his constitutional immunity from prosecution as a sitting governor, Mohammed’s name was reportedly mentioned in court proceedings.
“Who is recognized without my incline for this kind of recognition in Nigeria?” he questioned rhetorically.
In a defiant tone, the Governor suggested the matter was politically motivated.
"I do not have to say anything and I do not have to go to the public court,” he declared, implying a distrust of the public judicial process. “Certainly, Nigeria politics is something else,” he added.
The Governor’s comments highlight escalating tensions between him and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the federal level.
