Lere Olayinka Reacts As 60-Year-Old Miyetti Allah Leader Was Apprehended For Sponsoring Bandits

Security operatives in Kwara State have apprehended Idris Abubakar, a prominent leader of Miyetti Allah, over allegations of sponsoring bandit activities in the region.

The arrest, which also involved several associates, has sparked widespread attention and debate across social and traditional media, with political commentators and public figures weighing in on the development.

The revelation was shared by Lere Olayinka, senior special adviser on media to former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Olayinka took to his official X handle on Thursday, 29 January 2026, to provide details about the apprehension and the alleged crimes.

According to Olayinka, Abubakar, a 60-year-old man, admitted to his involvement in funding and facilitating banditry, including aiding kidnappings carried out by armed Fulani groups.

“The security operatives who apprehended him expressed disbelief that someone of his age would be engaged in actions that inflict violence and terror on innocent citizens,” Olayinka wrote.

He highlighted that the confession underscores the seriousness of the matter and the urgent need for accountability for those involved in destabilizing communities.

Authorities allege that Abubakar and his accomplices played key roles in financing and coordinating attacks by bandit groups, which have caused significant loss of life and property across affected regions.

The arrests have been seen by security experts as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the networks that enable organized crime and violent extremism in Nigeria.

Public reaction to the arrest has been intense, with discussions centering on the responsibilities of community and ethnic leaders in promoting peace.

The Kwara State security authorities are reportedly moving to prosecute Abubakar and others implicated in the case, aiming to send a strong signal against impunity and the sponsorship of violence.
