Segun Showunmi has criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi over his decision to leave the Labour Party and align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying the move shows a lack of clear political direction.
Speaking during an interview on Channels TV, Showunmi argued that Obi’s strongest chance of becoming president would have been through the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to him, the PDP is at a critical stage and Obi remains the most viable option the party could present if he chose to return.
Showunmi accused Obi of lacking seriousness and long-term planning, saying he does not have a clear strategy for winning elections.
He claimed Obi made a mistake by leaving the Labour Party instead of staying back to strengthen it and build a solid structure for future success.
He also criticised Obi’s habit of moving from one political platform to another, describing it as intellectual and strategic laziness.
Showunmi said Obi could have built strong public support no matter the party he stayed in, whether APGA, PDP, or Labour Party, if he had focused on consistent organisation and leadership.
According to him, Obi failed to resolve internal issues within the Labour Party and has now joined another platform where internal competition is even tougher.
He added that experienced politicians like Atiku Abubakar are not easily defeated in party primaries, suggesting Obi may struggle within such a space.
In his words, "Peter is not serious, he doesn't even know where his pathway to Victory is. Peter would have stayed in LP and they could have had a clear pathway."
