Ali Ndume, APC chieftain and senator representing Borno South, has responded to rumors claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu plans to declare himself the winner of the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement captured on video and shared on January 28, 2026, via Arise News’ official X handle, Ndume rejected the speculation, emphasizing that Tinubu is an experienced politician who prioritizes legality and democratic integrity in all political endeavors.
He asserted that the President is focused on strategizing to secure victory through legitimate means rather than attempting to unilaterally announce himself as the winner.
Ndume said, “I don't think Mr. President will think about that. Mr. President, as a politician and as someone who has gone through it all, is strategizing to win the election and not to declare himself as the winner.
No, that won't work.” He added that the false narrative misrepresents the President’s approach and risks generating unnecessary fear or confusion among supporters and the wider public.
The senator further highlighted Tinubu’s long-standing record of lawful political engagement and disciplined campaign planning.
Analysts note that, under his leadership, the APC is likely to implement a meticulous election strategy designed to maintain voter trust and secure democratic legitimacy.
Ndume’s clarification comes amid mounting public and media speculation regarding the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
By directly addressing the rumors, the senator reassures both the electorate and party members that President Tinubu is committed to following constitutional and democratic processes while striving for a credible and fair victory.

Nigeria is not Cameroon. If Tinubu doesn't win in 2027, he will go back to his business. He's not a noise Maker and will never be one.
