“Those crying from left and right should mind their business; I have never apologized" –Wike

Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has forcefully addressed critics questioning his political career, asserting that he has no need to apologize for his choice to pursue politics.

In a public address reported by SYMFONI, Wike emphasized that ongoing criticism from different sources does not deter him from his path or responsibilities.

He stated that politics, like other professions, demands dedication and conviction rather than continuous justification.

He encouraged individuals to follow any career they wish but to fully embrace their choices without regret.

Wike has deliberately chosen politics and has consistently upheld that decision throughout the years.

Responding to what he referred to as “complainers from all sides,” Wike urged them to focus on their own matters instead of scrutinizing his actions.

He argued that political engagement is driven by interests and influence rather than emotions.

He believes that personal feelings should not interfere with serious political considerations.

Wike further clarified that he has always been genuine in his political identity. He indicated that he has never claimed to be a religious leader, trader, or media figure, but rather a politician committed to the rules of the political arena.

According to him, trying to embody multiple identities weakens one's effectiveness and credibility in the public sphere.

He highlighted that resilience is crucial in politics, acknowledging that criticism is a natural part of being in a position of influence.

Wike suggested that critiques often arise not from failure, but from one's visibility and impact.

Therefore, he views public discontent as a necessary aspect of leadership, rather than a reason to step back.

“Those yelling from every angle should focus on their own issues; I have never apologized for my role as a politician,” he stated.

Wike expressed that he remains unaffected by demands for him to tone down or remain silent.

He maintained that those uncomfortable with political competition are welcome to withdraw, while those ready to engage must do so with courage and determination.

For him, true leadership entails strength, a clear purpose, and the resolve to remain steadfast under pressure.
