We Also Heard That The 350M Given To The HoA, Wike Collected Part Of It And Gave Them Peanuts–Tariah

Opunabo Inko-Tariah has said the renewed political crisis in Rivers State is mainly about money, not governance or development.

According to him, the disagreement between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the pro-Wike lawmakers is driven by financial demands made by members of the House of Assembly.

Speaking on News Central TV, he explained that the lawmakers allegedly demanded one billion naira each.

Before now, they were already given about 350 million naira per member for constituency projects, along with new Prado SUVs.

Tariah noted that none of the lawmakers has properly explained how the 350 million naira was spent on projects meant to benefit their people.

He further stated that there are strong claims, although not officially verified, that a large part of the 350 million naira given to the lawmakers was taken by their political leader, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

According to these claims, only a small portion of the money was eventually given to the lawmakers themselves.

Tariah also raised concerns about reports that salaries of some local government workers have not been paid in several areas of the state.

He stressed that local governments are meant to operate independently and that a state governor should not interfere with their finances.

In his words, "We also heard although we cannot verify the veracity of that claim, but we have a conviction that even the 350 million given to the House of Assembly members, the money was actually collected by their principal, the FCT minister, who collected a substantial part of it and gave peanuts to them."
