Senator John Azuta-Mbata has reacted strongly to remarks credited to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, saying the comments reflect deep political and personal disagreements that have trailed their relationship over the years.
Speaking during a programme monitored by SYMFONI TV, the former senator recounted how his past support and sacrifices are now being dismissed amid rising political tensions.
Azuta-Mbata said he was surprised by the tone and manner in which Wike allegedly addressed him, despite what he described as his contributions to the minister’s early life and political journey.
According to him, respect should remain sacrosanct regardless of political differences, stressing that disagreements should not erase history or shared experiences.
Recounting the issue, the senator quoted Wike as saying, “I fed you and paid your school fees, yet you talk to me anyhow.”
He noted that such a statement has continued to generate reactions within Rivers State political circles, with many interpreting it as evidence of the deep rift among former allies.
The former lawmaker maintained that he would not be drawn into abusive exchanges, adding that leadership demands maturity and restraint.
He urged political actors to focus on governance and public service rather than personal attacks, warning that inflammatory statements could further polarize supporters and deepen divisions within the polity.
