Speaking in an interview with Trust TV on Thursday, February 5, 2026, Bala narrated how fear, exhaustion, and uncertainty pushed her to a point where she felt she could no longer continue walking with her captors.
According to her, the attack happened suddenly, leaving the victims confused and terrified as the gunmen ordered everyone to move quickly into the darkness.
She said the group was marched away from their home toward an unknown destination, without being told where they were being taken or what would happen next.
Bala explained that the emotional weight of the situation became overwhelming, especially as she watched people close to her being forced to walk ahead without knowing whether they would survive.
“At that moment, I felt I had reached my limit,” she said.
“I told them to kill me because I was not going to follow them any farther.”
She recalled that her words angered one of the armed men, who reacted by pointing a gun at her. For a brief moment, she believed her life was about to end.

However, another member of the group, whom she described as older and calmer, intervened and stopped the situation from escalating.
In her words, “The man cocked the gun and wanted to shoot me, but another elderly man among them said no. They said there were neighboring villages around and told them not to do it. I was still saying they should kill me because I was not following them. By then, my sisters had gone far, and they told them to keep walking.”
Bala said that watching the Edward sisters, whom she considers part of her own family, being led farther away added to her distress.
