In an interview with *The Sun* on Friday, March 13, 2026, George Ashiru, the Lagos State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated that the party has significantly bolstered its presence in Lagos following the defection of five legislators.
He confirmed that four House of Representatives members and one senator from Lagos constituencies have officially joined the ADC, enhancing the party’s legislative strength and political influence ahead of future elections.
Ashiru highlighted that with these additions, the ADC now holds four of the 24 House of Representatives seats in Lagos.
He emphasized that the party is committed to defending these seats while aiming to win the remaining constituencies in upcoming elections.
The chairman noted that the new lawmakers bring valuable experience and established trust with their constituents, reflecting growing confidence in the ADC as a credible alternative to the historically dominant parties in Lagos.
He described the defections as strong proof of the party’s increasing relevance and momentum at both state and national levels.
He stressed that retaining current seats and gaining more will require ongoing grassroots engagement, active constituent interaction, and strong local organization.
Ashiru also outlined plans to leverage the networks, visibility, and influence of the new members to attract more supporters, build alliances, enhance voter outreach, and expand the party’s presence across Lagos.
In his words:
“Four House of Representatives members and one National Assembly member—all from Lagos—have joined the ADC. We currently control four out of 24 House seats, and our focus is on defending these and winning the remaining twenty.”
