With Fintiri, It is 30 APC Governors But In The Next Two Weeks, It's Going To Be 31 Governors-Basiru

APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru has revealed that the ruling party is on the verge of welcoming yet another governor into its fold, following the defection of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, and that the announcement could come within the next two weeks.

Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, Basiru teased the development without revealing names. "With Fintiri, it is 30 APC governors, but hopefully, in the next one or two weeks, it is going to be 31 APC governors. But I won't say who is going to be added. It's a secret," he said.

Basiru also pushed back against allegations that President Tinubu was undermining democratic principles, arguing that Nigeria's political environment was evidence of a thriving democracy.

He pointed to the country's large number of independent television and radio stations as proof of robust free speech, describing the daily mix of voices both supporting and criticising the government as a healthy sign of democratic freedom. 

He also highlighted the recent registration of two new political parties as further evidence that Nigeria's democratic space remained open and competitive.
