According to a report by Daily Post, on Saturday April 4, 2026, veteran actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has criticized the recent action by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing it as a direct attack on opposition politics in Nigeria.
Okonkwo condemned the decision by INEC chairman Joash Amupitan to delist the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by David Mark, accusing the electoral body of bias and favouring the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Okonkwo described the move as absurd and very unfortunate, saying it undermines the independence and credibility of INEC, he said the chairman should be impartial and resistant to external influences from the judiciary, executive, or legislature, according to him, the delisting of the David Mark-led ADC effectively removes the main opposition, leaving the ruling party uncontested.
He compared the situation with past disputes in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), noting that even when PDP factions were in court, INEC still recognised one faction and allowed party activities to continue and argued that the ADC should be treated similarly and that recognising a single individual does not erase the party’s existence.
The veteran actor directly attacked Amupitan, calling for his removal, he said, With Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the discussion was whether elections were free and fair, but with Joash Amupitan, you’re talking about whether an election will happen at all and warned that INEC’s actions threaten the credibility of upcoming elections and undermine the democratic process.
“We’ve had enough. Whichever one they want. Amupitan should go. He should just get out. Joash Amupitan is the worst human being that I’ve ever met as terrible as Mahmood Yakubu was with the technical glitch.
With Joash, you won’t even have an election at all. How can you come out and say there is no opposition? There is nothing like PDP anywhere," he said.
