"I Think No Politician Has Received More Abuse Than I've, I Think,After Tinubu,I Am The One–Wike

According to a report by Daily Post on Friday, April 3, 2026, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described himself as one of the most criticised politicians in Nigeria, second only to President Bola Tinubu.

Wike made this remark during a conversation with journalists in Abuja on Friday, reflecting on the challenges he faces while performing his duties as a minister.

He stated that despite the criticisms, his primary focus remains on executing the responsibilities assigned to him and ensuring that his office delivers results for the citizens.

Wike highlighted that the level of criticism he faces is intense and widespread, suggesting that no other politician in the country has been subjected to the same level of scrutiny.

He indicated that much of the criticism stems from the nature of his work and the difficult decisions he has to make.

The minister also pointed out that public office, particularly in government ministries, comes with inevitable challenges and opposition, which are amplified when trying to implement policies that affect the daily lives of citizens.

In his comments, Wike spoke about the difficulties of tax collection and public service delivery.

He explained that many Nigerians expect government services, such as electricity, good roads, and other amenities, without understanding the complexity and costs involved in providing them.

He emphasised that collecting taxes and managing resources responsibly is often met with resistance and complaints, making it a challenging task for any public official.

According to him, these realities contribute significantly to the criticisms and abuses he faces in his position.

The minister also stressed that despite the criticisms and public pressure, he remains committed to his work and to improving service delivery in the Federal Capital Territory.

Wike argued that the criticisms should not distract politicians from their responsibilities, noting that effective governance often requires making tough decisions that may not always be popular.

He encouraged a focus on results and the impact of policies rather than succumbing to public disapproval or political attacks.

He said, “I think no politician has received more abuse than I have. I think, after the President, I am the one receiving the highest level of abuse. To collect tax is not an easy thing.

How many Nigerians like to pay tax? And they want everything free of charge for them. They want road. They want light. It is not easy."
