In a recent interview on Symfoni TV, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, former member of the House of Representatives, Sergius Ogun, discussed Nigeria’s electoral dynamics, regional voting behaviour, and the strategic positioning of major political actors ahead of the 2027 general elections.

During the interview, Ogun analysed expected voting patterns and how different political figures are likely to perform across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.

He focused particularly on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing how their influence may shape the next election.

Speaking during the discussion, Ogun stated, “Atiku will take most votes from the North, and Peter Obi will take most votes from the South.”

He made the remark while analysing how regional loyalty and political structures could influence the distribution of votes in the upcoming general election.

Ogun explained that Nigerian elections are still largely influenced by regional and ethnic considerations, with candidates often drawing their strongest support from specific zones of the country.

He noted that Atiku Abubakar remains a strong political figure in the northern region due to long-standing political networks and established party structures.

He also stated that Peter Obi continues to command significant support in the southern region, particularly among urban voters and younger demographics who are increasingly active in political discussions and mobilisation.

According to him, these regional dynamics will play a critical role in determining the outcome of the 2027 presidential election, especially if opposition parties fail to form a unified front.

Ogun concluded by warning that fragmented opposition votes could strengthen the ruling party’s chances, stressing the importance of coalition-building and strategic alignment among political actors ahead of the elections.
