RIP: Another Nigerian Killed Fighting for Russian Forces in Ukraine, Records Show

Another Nigerian has lost his life on the battlefields of Ukraine while fighting for the Russian military, and this time the circumstances surrounding his recruitment make the tragedy even harder to ignore.

Ukrainian military intelligence, known as HUR, confirmed that Ayebusiwa Olabode Victor was killed in Ukraine's Kharkiv region after allegedly being lured to Russia under the false promise of legitimate employment. Like others before him, he arrived expecting a job and ended up on a frontline.

What makes this case particularly striking is the timing. According to HUR, Ayebusiwa signed his military contract at the end of February 2026, just one week after Nigeria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially expressed serious concern about the illegal recruitment of Nigerian citizens into foreign armed conflicts.
