‘A Presidential Ticket Is Not Child’s Play; I've Gone Through It Twice’ -Momodu

In a recent interview on News Central TV, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, reacted to discussions around presidential ambitions and the challenges faced by political actors seeking the nation’s highest office, particularly in relation to former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

During the interview, Momodu reflected on the intensity and demands of presidential contests in Nigeria, drawing from his own experience as a former aspirant in national elections.

He emphasized that the process requires resilience, structure, and deep political understanding, especially when competing at the national level.

Speaking during the discussion, Momodu stated, “A presidential ticket is not child’s play; I have gone through it twice.”

He made the remark while responding to questions about the political readiness and experience required for aspirants seeking to emerge as presidential candidates in major political parties.

Momodu explained that many political actors often underestimate the scale of organisation, negotiation, and nationwide engagement required to secure a presidential ticket in Nigeria.

According to him, the process involves extensive consultations, strategic alliances, and sustained political presence across all regions of the country.

He noted that presidential ambition is not determined by popularity alone but by the ability to build structures capable of mobilising support across diverse voting blocs.
Momodu added that experience plays a crucial role in understanding the complexities of internal party contests and national elections.

The ADC chieftain further stressed that Nigeria’s political landscape demands patience and strategic planning, warning that rushing into presidential contests without adequate preparation often leads to disappointment.

He maintained that seasoned politicians tend to perform better because of their exposure to the realities of national campaigns.

He concluded by urging political actors, including Amaechi and others with presidential aspirations, to approach future contests with caution, discipline, and a clear understanding of the demands involved in securing and managing a presidential ticket in Nigeria.
