Public affairs analyst Jide Ojo has raised concerns over the growing divisions within Nigeria’s opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general election, warning that disunity among key political figures could weaken their chances of challenging the ruling political establishment.
Speaking during an interview aired on News Central TV on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Ojo said the opposition may struggle to achieve electoral success if major contenders fail to unite under a common platform before the polls.
“If all of them go to the polls independently, it is a game over for them,” he said while analysing the possible impact of multiple opposition candidates contesting separately in the presidential election.
According to him, although these politicians command significant support across different regions, their inability to work together under a single political arrangement could reduce the opposition’s overall strength at the polls.
He explained that presidential elections are often determined not only by popularity but also by the ability of political actors to form alliances and consolidate votes.
Ojo added that the continued disagreements, party realignments, and competing interests within opposition circles remain major obstacles to building a formidable coalition ahead of 2027.
The analyst further stated that the direction of opposition politics in the coming months will likely determine whether voters are presented with a united alternative or a fragmented field of candidates during the election.
