Fubara’s Brother Enters Rivers Guber Race, Pledges One-Term Tenure to Unseat Opposition

According to a report by PUNCH on Thursday 28th May 2026, Ambassador Blessing Fubara Senior, a sibling of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially entered the race for the state’s governorship under the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), pledging to serve only a single term if elected.

Speaking during the party’s primary preparations, he described his ambition as a mission to restore stability, economic strength, and public confidence in Rivers State, which he said has suffered political tension and economic setbacks in recent years.

Fubara said his decision to contest was driven by what he called the need for a “collective political awakening” to reposition the state.

According to him, Rivers has experienced declining opportunities and weakened development indicators, a situation he believes must be urgently reversed through inclusive leadership.

He also emphasized the principle of political rotation in the state, insisting that the Rivers South-East Senatorial District should be allowed to complete its agreed tenure cycle.

Reaffirming his commitment, he promised that if elected, he would serve only one term and ensure a smooth transition to another district afterward.

“We are not a conquered people,” he said, stressing that power ultimately belongs to the citizens rather than financial influence or political structures.

The governorship hopeful called on supporters across all 23 local government areas of the state to mobilize ahead of the party primaries, urging strong participation to strengthen what he described as a people-driven movement.

He further urged unity within the political space and warned against disrupting the state’s zoning arrangement, arguing that doing so could create long-term instability in Rivers politics.

Fubara also appealed to other contenders in the race, including a senior political figure he described as an elder brother, to consider stepping down in the interest of peace, rotation, and fairness.

He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to restoring peace, attracting investment, and rebuilding what he called the “lost glory” of Rivers State.
