Media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Lere Olayinka, has reacted to reports that an elderly female aspirant has emerged as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Federal Capital Territory senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 elections.
Olayinka made the remarks in a post shared on social media, where he appeared to ridicule activist and politician Aisha Yesufu, who had earlier expressed interest in contesting for the senatorial position under the NDC platform.
According to Olayinka, the senatorial ticket was allegedly secured by a woman who donated a building to the party to be used as its secretariat.
He followed the statement with a direct jab at Yesufu, saying, “Dem don do AISHA YESUFU balabluuuuuu,” while also attaching laughing emojis to the post.
The comment quickly generated reactions online, with supporters and critics of both Olayinka and Yesufu debating the implications of the development and the tone of the aide’s remarks.
Aisha Yesufu, a prominent activist and co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls movement, has in recent months become increasingly vocal about her political ambitions and involvement in opposition politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
She had openly aligned herself with several opposition movements and political figures advocating reforms and stronger democratic participation in Nigeria.
Her supporters have often described her as one of the most outspoken voices against bad governance and political intimidation in the country.
The reported emergence of another female aspirant as the NDC senatorial candidate for the FCT has therefore sparked conversations about internal party dynamics and the growing competition among opposition politicians seeking elective offices ahead of the next election cycle.
