According to a report published by The Sun Newspaper on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, activist and presidential hopeful Omoyele Sowore has strongly rejected the results of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary, describing the outcome as unrealistic and disconnected from the political and economic realities experienced by ordinary Nigerians.
The primary election, conducted through a nationwide direct voting process across wards in Nigeria, produced a landslide victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who reportedly secured 10,999,162 votes. His only challenger, Stanley Osifo, polled 16,503 votes.
The figures, which were announced amid heightened party mobilisation and security arrangements, have continued to generate public debate, particularly over the scale of participation claimed in the internal party election.
In his reaction, Sowore was particularly critical of the scale of votes credited to President Tinubu, insisting that such figures were inconsistent with the lived experiences of Nigerians facing economic hardship and insecurity.
“Nigerians are not mad that 10 million people would vote Tinubu to continue,” he said, expressing disbelief at the announced results and suggesting a disconnect between official figures and public sentiment.
The APC presidential primary was conducted across thousands of wards using a direct voting system, with party officials reporting what they described as a massive turnout.
According to the party, more than 11 million accredited members participated in the exercise, making it one of the largest internal party voting processes in recent years.
