Tanko Reacts To Kwankwaso’s Comment On Peter Obi’s Popularity In The Southern and Northern States

A prominent ally of Peter Obi and National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has reacted to recent comments made by NDC Chieftain, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso regarding the growing popularity of both Peter Obi and the Kwankwasiyya political movement across different parts of Nigeria.

Tanko, in a post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter on Monday, May 18, 2026, said Kwankwaso’s remarks reflected the current political reality in the country, particularly the increasing support enjoyed by Obi in the South and parts of Northern Nigeria.

“Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s statement reflects the political reality in Nigeria today. The popularity and acceptance of His Excellency Peter Obi across the South and many parts of the North cannot be denied, just as the strength and influence of the Kwankwasiyya movement remain undeniable,” Tanko wrote.

The statement followed comments attributed to Kwankwaso during an interview aired by Trust TV, where the former Kano State governor reportedly acknowledged Obi’s growing political influence across regions.

“Peter Obi is a very popular politician in the entire South and many parts of Northern Nigeria and you cannot take that from him, the same with Kwankwasiyya movement,” Kwankwaso said in the interview.

Tanko said the growing popularity of both political movements demonstrates that many Nigerians are united by a shared desire for accountable leadership and national progress.

“This shows that Nigerians are united by a common desire for good leadership, accountability, and a better future for all,” he added.
