Three Years Into Tinubu’s Govt, Many Nigerians Feel Overwhelmed Rather Than Relieved –Adejoh

According to a report by The Sun on Saturday, May 30, 2026, despite several economic and governance reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, many Nigerians are still experiencing severe hardship, with widespread hunger and emotional distress rather than the expected relief.

This position was expressed by former governorship aspirant and women’s leader, Princess Grace Iye Adejoh, who reviewed the performance of the administration as it approaches three years in office.

Princess Adejoh noted that the living conditions of many citizens have continued to worsen, with reports of increasing deaths linked to hunger and starvation.

According to her, essential food items have become unaffordable for a large segment of the population, making daily survival difficult for ordinary households across different communities.

She further stated that the economic pressure has also contributed to preventable deaths, as many individuals are unable to access basic healthcare services.

She explained that treatable illnesses are increasingly becoming fatal because affected persons cannot afford medical treatment or hospital bills, leading to avoidable loss of lives.

On the issue of security, Princess Adejoh raised concerns over the rising incidents of kidnappings, killings, and violent attacks in various parts of the country.

She said the activities of bandits and terrorist groups have continued to spread, while the situation appears to persist without effective control, describing the level of insecurity as unprecedented in recent times.

The women’s leader made these remarks in a statement released to journalists in Lokoja on Saturday.

In the statement, she emphasized that Nigeria requires a shift in both leadership and civic responsibility if meaningful progress is to be achieved. She stressed that the approach to governance and national development must be re-examined at all levels.

She also highlighted the need for stronger accountability systems within public service and leadership structures.

According to her, merit should be prioritized in appointments and decision-making processes, while patriotism should be demonstrated through concrete actions rather than being used only as a slogan in public discourse.

Princess Adejoh also pointed out that while there are claims of progress in certain areas of governance, including subsidy removal, local government autonomy, increased revenue allocation to states, and infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, many citizens continue to struggle with daily survival challenges across the country.

She said, “Three years into President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, many Nigerians feel overwhelmed rather than relieved. This sentiment is not because the government has achieved nothing.

Supporters of the administration point to the removal of fuel subsidy, local government autonomy, increased allocations to states, and major infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
