2027: “Tinubu Will Stand A Chance Of Winning Not Because Of His Performance In Public Office”—Dahiru

According to a report by Opera News, a technical member of the Lux Terra Leadership Foundation, Majeed Dahiru, has expressed concerns about the state of internal democracy within the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview aired on Channels Television on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Dahiru discussed developments arising from party primaries and the political realignments taking place across the country.

He questioned the willingness of major political parties to publicly release verified lists of candidates who emerged victorious in their primary elections.
While analysing the political landscape, Dahiru argued that President Bola Tinubu's chances in the next election may be influenced more by the broad political coalition currently supporting the ruling party than by assessments of his performance in office.

He said, “Tinubu is going to stand a chance of winning the next election not because of his performance in public office.”

According to Dahiru, the APC has expanded its influence by attracting various opposition figures and groups into its fold.

However, he cautioned that such a strategy could also create internal tensions and increase the likelihood of disagreements within the party.

The political analyst further warned that withholding primary election results could undermine democratic principles.

He argued that concentrating decision-making power in the hands of a few influential party leaders may weaken transparency, discourage citizen participation, and raise concerns about accountability within the political system.

Dahiru also urged the ruling party and its leadership to demonstrate commitment to democratic values by adhering to established rules and procedures.

He maintained that greater openness in the management of party affairs would strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.

Concluding his remarks, he warned that a continued lack of transparency across political parties could have lasting consequences for Nigeria's democratic development if not addressed before the next round of national elections.
