Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents Edo State in the Senate, has alleged that the upper legislative chamber, under the leadership of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, faced criticism from representatives of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) over claims that senators had recommended their children for employment within the corporation.

Speaking in a report aired by AIT News, Oshiomhole stated that the integrity of the Senate and its members had been questioned through allegations that some lawmakers, including the Senate President, nominated relatives for positions in NNPC.

He noted that these accusations emerged amid ongoing concerns over an alleged N210 trillion financial discrepancy involving the company.

The senator further highlighted two key issues raised during the discussions.

According to him, NNPC reportedly claimed that more than N117 trillion was held in banks that had since been liquidated, yet failed to identify the institutions involved.

He also alleged that approximately N103 trillion linked to the transportation of petroleum products could not be properly accounted for by the operators responsible for moving the products.

Oshiomhole said he had not received satisfactory explanations regarding either matter and voiced concern about the possibility of the Senate reaching conclusions without having access to complete and verified information.

He argued that making critical decisions based on incomplete records or edited submissions would undermine the Senate’s oversight role and set a troubling precedent in the handling of issues involving such substantial public funds.
