NDC: We Paid N3 Million for Interest Form, And Were Told to Pay N20 Million to Support the Party–Oli

Anambra South Senatorial aspirant Nwabueze Oli has provided details of the financial commitments he said he made during the process leading up to the senatorial primary election, while also reiterating concerns about the conduct of the exercise that eventually produced Senator Victor Umeh as the party's candidate.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Oli outlined the various payments required of aspirants seeking to contest for the Anambra South Senate seat.

According to him, the process began with the purchase of an expression of interest form, which officially signaled a candidate's intention to participate in the race.

Oli disclosed that he paid N3 million for the expression of interest form, describing it as the initial requirement for aspirants seeking to contest the senatorial position.

He explained that the payment was part of the established procedure for those interested in participating in the primary election.

Beyond the expression of interest form, Oli said aspirants were informed about an additional N20 million contribution intended to support party activities.

He noted that party officials did not present the payment as a mandatory requirement and that no aspirant was compelled to contribute the amount.

Despite the voluntary nature of the contribution, Oli stated that he chose to make the payment and maintained that he possesses documentary evidence to support his claim.

According to him, receipts were issued for the transaction, providing proof that the payment was successfully completed.

The senatorial aspirant further stated that apart from the N3 million expression of interest fee and the N20 million contribution to the party, he was not subjected to any additional financial demands throughout the process.

He stressed that there were no hidden charges or extra payments imposed on him beyond those already communicated to aspirants.

His revelations come amid an ongoing dispute surrounding the conduct and outcome of the senatorial primary election.

Oli has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with the exercise, alleging that the process was manipulated in a manner that favored Senator Victor Umeh.

According to Oli, his concerns are not limited to the financial aspects of the primary election but extend to the overall conduct of the exercise.

He argued that the process failed to meet the standards of fairness and transparency expected in a democratic selection process.

While discussing the matter during the television interview, Oli emphasized the payments he made during the course of his participation in the primary election.

In his words,"We paid 3 million naira to show interest that you want to contest the Senate position, and we were told to pay 20 million naira standard fee just to support the party, which I paid."

The statement formed part of a broader discussion regarding the circumstances surrounding the primary election and Oli's objections to its outcome.

As discussions over the primary election continue, stakeholders are expected to closely monitor developments and any responses from party officials regarding the allegations raised by the senatorial aspirant.

For now, Oli maintains that the process was not conducted fairly and has continued to challenge the circumstances that led to the emergence of Senator Victor Umeh as the party's candidate for the Anambra South Senatorial District.
