Babachir Lawal’s Actions Disgraced BAT Globally, And BAT Had To Ease Him Out Of Office - Fabiyi

In a recent interview on Symfoni TV, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Oladimeji Fabiyi, Deputy National Financial Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), spoke about political accountability, leadership conduct, and past controversies involving high-level political office holders in Nigeria within the broader context of governance and public trust.

Fabiyi argued that the credibility of public office holders is closely tied to their actions while in office, maintaining that leadership behavior can have both domestic and international implications for the country’s image.

He stressed that public officials are expected to uphold standards that protect the dignity of the office they occupy.

Speaking during the interview, Fabiyi stated, “Babachir Lawal’s actions disgraced BAT globally, and BAT had to ease him out of office.”

He made the remark while discussing what he described as past incidents involving political appointees and the consequences of misconduct within government structures.

According to Fabiyi, when individuals in sensitive positions act in ways that attract controversy, it can affect not only their personal reputation but also the perception of the administration they serve under.

He suggested that decisive action is often taken by leadership to protect institutional integrity.

Fabiyi further argued that accountability remains a key pillar of good governance, and that leaders must be willing to make difficult decisions when trust is compromised.

He maintained that no administration can afford to ignore actions that undermine public confidence or international reputation.

He concluded by urging stronger ethical standards in public office, stressing that Nigeria’s democratic system depends on transparency, discipline, and responsibility among political appointees and senior officials across all levels of government.
