Oritsejafor, who spoke during an interview with Channels Television, claimed that Jonathan’s administration struggled because some powerful individuals allegedly influenced foreign countries against providing military equipment to Nigeria during the fight against insurgents.
The cleric explained that the lack of access to arms and ammunition created major challenges for the government, making it difficult for security forces to effectively confront terrorist groups operating in the country at the time.
He alleged that countries such as Israel, the United Kingdom and France were approached by an influential figure and discouraged from selling weapons to Jonathan’s administration.
According to Oritsejafor, the former president made significant efforts despite the obstacles confronting his government.
“Jonathan did the best that he could because I discovered that somebody with a lot of influence contacted nations like Israel, UK and France and all these nations not to sell arms to him. How do you fight insurgency without ammunition and without guns. So he has nobody and no nation to go to and buy these things,” he said.
