I and Sunday Igboho Have Spoken. He Sent Me a Message That He Didn't Mean It That Way—Sowore

Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, in a video posted on his official YouTube page on Friday June 5, 2026, spoke about his relationship with Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Igboho and addressed comments that had previously caused disagreement between them.

Sowore explained that he had no personal issues with Igboho until the activist made remarks suggesting that individuals who were not supporting President Bola Tinubu should not be allowed to campaign.

He stated that he considered such a position unacceptable because it conflicted with democratic principles and the right of citizens to participate in political activities regardless of their political preferences.

The AAC presidential candidate noted that the disagreement had since been resolved following direct communication between both men. He said Igboho reached out to him and clarified the statement that had generated controversy.

According to him, “I told you before, I don't have anything against Sunday Igboho until he made that statement that anybody who's not supporting Tinubu cannot campaign, and that's where, for me, he crossed the line, and he and I have spoken.

He sent me a message that he didn't mean it that way. So anybody in this country that can help fix the country as long as they're not committing crime, we're in support of that.”

Sowore argued that national development should take precedence over political differences, adding that individuals willing to contribute positively to the country's progress should be encouraged regardless of their background or affiliations.

He maintained that support for efforts aimed at improving Nigeria should not be restricted to any political camp.

According to him, what matters is whether those involved are acting within the law and working toward solutions that benefit the country.
