According to a report by DAILY POST on Tuesday 9th June 2026, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said he remains willing to reconcile with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf despite the political disagreements that have strained their relationship.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, Kwankwaso revealed that he still holds affection for Yusuf and would readily accept him back if he chose to return to the political fold he left.
According to him, Yusuf's departure from the movement did not erase their longstanding relationship, noting that political conflicts are not unusual and can be resolved through dialogue and forgiveness.
The former governor blamed the current rift on Yusuf's decision to leave the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) and align with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that generated criticism among loyalists of the Kwankwasiyya movement.
He maintained that Yusuf's emergence as governor in 2023 was made possible by the support and influence of the movement, insisting that its popularity in Kano was strong enough to secure victory at the polls.
Kwankwaso also disclosed that Yusuf was deliberately selected as the movement's governorship candidate to showcase the strength of its political structure, rather than because of seniority or other personal attributes.
Emphasising the importance of tolerance in leadership, he said successful leaders must accommodate differing opinions and embrace forgiveness, adding that political progress is difficult to achieve without an open mind and a willingness to reconcile.
He concluded by stressing that forgiveness has remained one of the key principles that have sustained his political journey over the years.
