As reported in a video by AIT News on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, the Senate Committee overseeing the South East Development Commission (SEDC), led by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has expressed worries regarding the commission’s handling of finances and spending.
During the meeting, Senator Kalu inquired of the Managing Director and CEO of the commission, Mark Okoye, about the amount of funds received by the organization.
“You have received 16.6 billion naira. What is the remaining balance in your account?” Kalu questioned.
Reminding the SEDC leader that he was under oath, the committee chair sought a specific number. “What is the current balance in the bank?” he asked further.
