Adeyemi, who is facing forgery and impersonation charges connected to the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), was asked whether it was fair to make serious allegations against a chief of staff he claims to have never physically met or spoken to directly, and whose phone number he could not independently confirm.
Rather than retreating from his position, Adeyemi turned the question back on the interviewer, suggesting that the uncertainty around identity cuts both ways, and that he too may have been misled by someone posing as an official with authority he did not actually have.
Adeniyi Adeyemi reacts after he was asked "What if you have been dealing with a fake?", in response he said this uncertainty is precisely why he continues to appeal for an independent, multi-stakeholder panel, arguing that only a neutral investigation involving international organisations and civil society groups can determine who among the parties, including himself, was acting in good faith.
He noted that the presidency has already exonerated the chief of staff in the matter, a position he said should not be treated as final without further scrutiny.
Adeyemi maintained that all communication he had was routed through Tanimola, the intermediary now deceased under what he called mysterious circumstances, and that he relied on the belief that the number Tanimola contacted matched the one linked to the chief of staff's office.
He reiterated his appeal to President Bola Tinubu to set up an independent panel to establish the facts.
