Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Opara questioned the effectiveness of the reported lobbying campaign and urged Nigerian politicians to resolve political disagreements through the country's democratic institutions rather than seeking foreign intervention.
He argued that foreign governments are guided by their own national interests and are unlikely to interfere in Nigeria's internal political affairs.
During the interview, Opara said, "Thank God that Trump has put that particular letter into the dustbin and gone ahead to commend President Tinubu."
He argued that the development showed the reported lobbying effort did not produce the desired political outcome.
Opara maintained that seeking external influence would not change Nigeria's constitutional process, insisting that leadership disputes and electoral disagreements should be resolved by Nigerian institutions, political stakeholders, and citizens through democratic means.
