In an interview with The Nigerian Tribune, Dr. Bashir Kurfi, a social commentator, former lecturer at Ahmadu Bello University’s School of Business, and head of the Katsina Community Security Initiative, discussed the growing security challenges in Nigeria.

Asked about claims that almajiri children are used during elections, Kurfi noted that while politicians may not directly enlist them, they frequently depend on networks of political enforcers. 

He pointed out that impoverished and vulnerable almajiri youths are particularly susceptible to being pulled into such roles.

He emphasized that widespread youth unemployment and marginalization make it easier for political actors to mobilize people for election-related violence.
