Lere Olayinka Reacts After Lt Yerima Said “You're My Junior, You Can't Even Talk When I'm Talking”

Spokesperson for FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Mr. Lere Olayinka, has addressed a viral clip showing a confrontation between a naval officer, Lieutenant A.M. Yerima, and some police officers amid a demolition operation in Abuja.

The footage captures Lieutenant Yerima asserting dominance over a police officer, saying, “You cannot shut me up. Look at you, you are my junior, you cannot even talk when I’m talking.”

The video quickly gained attention online, sparking debates about authority, respect, and protocol among Nigeria’s security forces.

Reacting on X (formerly Twitter), Olayinka questioned the officer’s attitude, pointing out that senior police officers, including the FCT Commissioner of Police, were present during the incident.

He wrote, “Policemen he was referring to here included the FCT Commissioner of Police who was there? Or even the IGP.

So policemen are nobody?” His comment intensified discussions around inter-agency rivalry and accountability.

The episode has underscored growing friction between Nigeria’s security agencies during official assignments in the nation’s capital.

Social media users criticized the incident as a troubling sign of insubordination and lack of cohesion among the armed forces and police.

According to reports, the clash occurred during an effort to demolish a property allegedly owned by former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo.

Soldiers led by Lieutenant Yerima blocked the demolition, resulting in a tense standoff involving police officers, FCT Administration officials, and military personnel.
