A Daily Post report published on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, revealed that Watford legend Troy Deeney has questioned Victor Osimhen’s decision to keep playing in Turkey, arguing that the Nigerian striker should be starring for one of Europe’s elite clubs.
While speaking on CBS Sports Golazo, Deeney expressed his disbelief at Osimhen’s career choice, describing him as a world-class forward who deserves a bigger stage.
He stated, “Victor Osimhen is one player I really don’t understand. Why is he in Turkey instead of playing for one of the top clubs in Europe?”
Osimhen officially joined Galatasaray in the summer of 2025, ending months of rumors that linked him with high-profile European teams such as Chelsea, Manchester United, PSG, Real Madrid, and Liverpool.
Despite the heavy speculation, the 26-year-old opted to remain with the Turkish side, where he had previously thrived on loan.
In the 2024–25 season, the prolific striker scored 37 goals across all competitions for Galatasaray, helping them dominate domestically and gain attention across Europe.
His hot streak has continued this season, as he has already scored six goals in three Champions League games—leaving fans and analysts wondering why top clubs failed to sign him.
Deeney, who once played in the Premier League, said it is difficult to comprehend why Osimhen is not leading the line for one of Europe’s major teams.
He personally ranks Osimhen as the seventh-best striker in the world, just behind Haaland, Kane, Mbappé, Lewandowski, Álvarez, and Martínez.
He added that Osimhen’s quality far surpasses that of Isak, Gyökeres, and Ekitike, who all play in top European leagues.
Deeney speculated that there may be hidden reasons preventing Osimhen from joining a major side but emphasized that the Nigerian forward’s ability is undeniable.
According to him, Osimhen is one of the most complete and consistent strikers in modern football.
