Governor Sanwo-Olu Urges Patience on Lagos Roads Amid Festive Season

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has called on residents and visitors to exercise patience while using the roads across the state. 

He made the appeal during the inauguration of the rehabilitated Akilo 1.0 MGD Micro Water Treatment Plant on Friday, emphasizing that the city is fully prepared to handle the influx of travelers during the festive period.

Speaking to the public, Governor Sanwo-Olu reminded Lagosians that roads are shared spaces and that patience is essential for safety and smooth traffic flow. 

“We want to remind everyone to be patient on the roads. Remember, you are not the only road user. Respect and understanding go a long way in making Lagos safe for everyone,” he said.

The governor highlighted the efforts of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the police in ensuring road safety. 

He noted that LASTMA would operate 24 hours a day, while additional police vehicles, funded by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, have been deployed to maintain order and protect road users.

Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the security personnel for their dedication, often working late into the night to ensure residents get home safely. 

“Just last month, security operatives worked at 2am and 3am to make sure people returned home safely. This season, they will continue to maintain a high level of vigilance, ensuring that everyone can enjoy a safe and peaceful holiday,” he added.

He further urged citizens to act responsibly and be mindful of fellow road users. 

“Make sure you look out for each other. Patience and respect for traffic rules are key. If everyone cooperates, we will all have a safe and prosperous festive season,” the governor said.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reassured the public that Lagos is ready to accommodate both local and international visitors. 

He emphasized that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure smooth traffic flow, safe travel, and accessible facilities throughout the city during this busy period.

The governor’s message comes at a time when Lagos, as Nigeria’s commercial hub, experiences heavy traffic and increased road activity due to the festive season. 

Authorities continue to urge road users to cooperate with traffic officials, follow road safety regulations, and exercise patience to prevent accidents and congestion.

By calling for calm and courtesy on the roads, Governor Sanwo-Olu hopes to create a safe, organized, and enjoyable festive environment for all Lagosians and visitors. 

He concluded, “We are all in this together. With patience, respect, and responsibility, Lagos will remain a city that welcomes everyone safely and efficiently this season.”
