According to report by Punch newspaper on Monday December 29, 2025, the Ogun State Government has confirmed that two people who died in the road accident involving world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, were foreign nationals.
The accident occurred shortly after 11am on Monday along the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, around the Makun axis near the Sagamu Interchange.
Reports from the scene revealed that the Lexus SUV conveying Joshua collided with a stationary truck while heading toward Sagamu.
In an official statement, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, said Joshua was travelling with three other individuals at the time of the incident.
Preliminary findings showed that two male foreign nationals died instantly, and their bodies were taken to the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu.
Joshua and the driver were rescued by security personnel attached to his convoy and taken to a hospital for medical treatment. Other occupants sustained injuries and are also receiving care.
The damaged vehicle has been moved to the Sagamu Motor Traffic Division office, while arrangements are ongoing to tow the truck involved for further investigation.
The state government described the incident as deeply painful and urged motorists to obey traffic rules, especially during periods of heavy road movement, while offering condolences to the families of the deceased.
