Political Analyst and legal practitioner, Barrister Darlington Agomuo has sharply criticized the Federal Government over what he described as its continued inability to decisively tackle banditry, particularly the violence attributed to notorious bandit leader, Turji Bello.
Agomuo made the remarks during an interview on Voice of the People TV while assessing the ongoing insecurity in parts of northern Nigeria and the widespread devastation caused by armed bandit groups.
He expressed concern that despite years of bloodshed, displacement, and kidnappings, some notorious figures appear to operate without fear of decisive consequences.
According to Agomuo, the case of Turji Bello exemplifies what many Nigerians perceive as the government’s soft approach to bandit leaders.
He alleged that rather than being confronted with the full force of the law, Turji has continued to receive visitors and intermediaries, creating the impression that he is being indulged rather than neutralized.
“Turji Bello has been receiving emissaries and when they are going back from visiting him, he will now say ‘thank you for coming,’” Agomuo stated.
The political analyst questioned how a figure accused of orchestrating violent attacks could allegedly maintain such open lines of communication with officials or intermediaries.
He argued that this pattern sends the wrong signal to victims of banditry and to other criminal elements watching the state’s response.
Agomuo noted that bandit attacks have left communities in ruins, with many residents killed, abducted, or forced to flee their homes.
He stressed that the government’s inability to decisively deal with high-profile bandit leaders has deepened public frustration and eroded confidence in the country’s security architecture.
