Fubara: 'We Do Not Say This Out Of Weakness, But As Mothers We Have Forgiving Hearts' - Hon. Barile Nwakoh

Two members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Barile Nwakoh, who represents Khana Constituency I, and Hon. Emilia Amadi, have indicated their personal readiness to forgive Governor Siminalayi Fubara and explore a political settlement to the ongoing impeachment proceedings against him and his deputy.

The lawmakers made their views public during a media engagement aired by SYMFONI TV, where they acknowledged growing appeals from prominent leaders and concerned citizens across Rivers State.

According to them, these stakeholders have persistently urged for restraint and dialogue rather than a hardline approach that could further destabilize governance in the state.

Explaining the reasoning behind their stance, Hon. Nwakoh said the calls from elders and the wider public weighed heavily on them.

She noted that many Rivers people have pleaded that the crisis be resolved through political understanding instead of pushing ahead with the removal of the governor and his deputy, whom they accused of actions that triggered the impeachment process.

She emphasized that their openness to reconciliation does not imply surrender or fear, but rather a deliberate choice rooted in maturity and compassion. Describing herself and her colleague as mothers, Hon. Nwakoh said they believe in forgiveness and peace-building, especially when the stability of the state is at stake.

However, the lawmakers made it clear that their willingness to forgive comes with expectations.

They stressed that Governor Fubara must provide clear assurances that he would correct past actions, adhere strictly to constitutional provisions, and respect all political agreements previously reached under the supervision of the President.

"We do not say this out of weakness, but as mothers we have forgiving hearts.

It is our hope and expectation that assurances will come from the governor that he would retrace his steps and govern in line with the constitution and keep to all agreements entered with the supervision of Mr. President," Hon. Nwakoh stated.

Hon. Nwakoh further clarified that their statement reflects a personal position and not an official resolution of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

She cautioned that other lawmakers may hold different views and that the collective decision of the Assembly remains subject to internal deliberations.
