How Would You Want Sharia Law? You Drink — Dokubo On Call For Sharia Law In The North

In a live session on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, former Niger Delta militant leader and influential Ijaw politician, Mujahid Asari Dokubo, shared his views on religion, personal identity, and the practice of Sharia law in Nigeria.

He claimed that many Nigerian Muslims do not sincerely support the enforcement of Sharia, despite openly demanding it.

Dokubo revealed that he has been a Muslim for many years but declined to disclose certain personal details.

He also said he has experienced hatred and opposition throughout his life, even before embracing Islam.

He stated, “People have always disliked me and planned against me, from my school days to my youth and adulthood, long before I changed my religion.”

He added that Muslims worldwide are often treated as though they have no right to exist, a reality he said is acknowledged in Islamic teachings and should not be surprising.

During the broadcast, Dokubo said he intended to raise important issues about governance and religion, especially regarding Sharia law in northern Nigeria.

He noted that while many northern states claim to have implemented Sharia through legislation, the actual attitude of Muslims tells a different story.

According to him, the majority of Muslims in Nigeria do not truly want Sharia law and only pretend to support it.

He criticized what he described as contradictions between public demands for Sharia and private behavior.

“How can you call for Sharia when you drink alcohol?” he asked. “You shout about Sharia but still go out to drink.”

He also mentioned other practices he said conflict with Islamic principles, including adultery, engaging in interest-based transactions, stealing from orphans, and misusing public funds. He argued that it is dishonest to demand Sharia while engaging in such actions.
