According to a report by The Sun on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Senator Uche Ekwunife, running mate to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the November 8, 2025, gubernatorial election in Anambra State, has expressed confidence that the 2027 presidential election would be an easy win for President Bola Tinubu.
Ekwunife spoke on the recent gubernatorial election in the state, noting that the party could have performed better if there had been more support from the national leadership.
She highlighted the role of party backing in election outcomes and suggested that even minimal assistance could have changed the result.
When asked to elaborate on her earlier statement that the APC might have won the 2025 gubernatorial election with just 20 percent support from the national leadership, she explained that the lack of backing affected the campaign significantly.
She emphasized the importance of support at all levels of the party for electoral success.
She further emphasized her political experience, pointing out that she had served in the National Assembly five times.
She suggested that her long-standing role in politics demonstrates her influence and capacity to contribute meaningfully to the party's success.
Ekwunife acknowledged the efforts of party members within the state. She praised their dedication and active participation during the campaign, noting that officials at the state, local government, and ward levels showed strong commitment.
Despite the challenges, she expressed gratitude to the party members who engaged in the election process.
She stressed that their interest and involvement were vital to the campaign, even if the overall outcome did not meet expectations.
Her statement also implied that the APC’s internal dynamics and support from the national leadership play a crucial role in determining election results.
She highlighted how internal party structures can influence the performance of candidates on the ground.
Ekwunife said, "But for someone like me that has been sworn in, in the National Assembly five times, you can’t tell me I am a small politician. Okay? We gave our best in that election.
And I will continue to thank the party people in the state. They showed interest. The state executive showed interest, the local government, the ward level showed interest."
