According to a report by The Guardian on Monday, January 12, 2026, heartbreaking details have emerged regarding the final moments of Nwamaka Chigbo, a prominent Abuja lawyer and former Treasurer of the NBA Abuja branch, who was murdered by her abductors.
Despite the family’s desperate attempts to meet a N3 million ransom demand, the kidnappers chose a path of blood and torture.
According to a family statement, the nightmare began during a phone call between Nwamaka and her sister, Anthonia.
The line remained open as the abduction took place, leaving Anthonia to listen in horror to her sister’s distress cries before the phone went dead.
When the family finally reached the kidnappers, a male voice demanded N3 million, threatening to kill her while raining down curses in English and Hausa.
In a final, chilling contact, the family heard Nwamaka screaming in pain, "I am dying, save me. Please send the money; I am dying."
That was the last time they heard her voice. By Tuesday, January 6, her body was discovered at an Abuja specialist hospital.
Her sister, Maureen Chigbo, who flew in from Lagos, was met with a gruesome sight at the mortuary: Nwamaka’s body was covered in bruises, her eyes were swollen, and her skull was cracked—clear signs of brutal torture.
The legal community is in mourning and boiling with rage. Former NBA Chairman Afam Okeke and other practitioners have called for an immediate overhaul of the FCT's security framework to tackle the "one-chance" syndicates.
Commissioner of Police Miller Dantawaye has promised a discreet investigation, but for the Chigbo family, the justice they seek can never bring back their beloved Nwamaka.
