I Sincerely Sympathize With Him But I Do Not Feel Sorry For Him, He Brought This Upon Himself—Olude

Ayotunde Olude, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State unfortunate and expressed mixed emotions regarding the impeachment efforts against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy.

In an interview with TVC News on Saturday, January 17, 2026, he responded to inquiries about some lawmakers' determination to pursue impeachment despite a court order.

Olude stated, “Good morning, Nigerians. It's regrettable that this issue has lingered for so long, particularly for the governor.

I empathize with him, but I can't feel pity for him since he brought this situation on himself.”

He attributed the crisis to the governor's political strategies, indicating, “He initiated this problem.

When you engage in conflict, you need to be well-prepared, and it's unfortunate that after two years in office, he cannot even claim the support of 10 assembly members in the legislative branch.”

Addressing the impeachment process initiated by the Rivers State House of Assembly, Olude spoke about the legislature's role.

"In response to your question regarding the impeachment already established by the house," he said, before emphasizing the repercussions for democracy.

He deemed the circumstances harmful to democratic institutions, especially the judiciary.

“It's unfortunate for democracy; it undermines the judiciary as people turn to courts for interim orders,” he remarked.

He recalled a warning from judicial authorities, saying, “I remember my law justice, the chief justice of Nigeria, admonishing judges against granting unnecessary interim orders for political matters.”

Despite his critique of the way interim orders can be obtained, Olude affirmed the need to adhere to judicial decisions.

“It’s disappointing, but regardless of how ineffective or wasteful we feel a court’s interim order may be, it must be upheld until it is overturned,” he noted.

However, he raised questions about whether due process was followed in issuing the impeachment notice: “We need to critically examine if procedure has been adhered to regarding this impeachment notice,” he stated.
