‎If I Were Kano Deputy Governor I'll Rather Resign Before Assembly Is Instigated To Impeach Me—Ketso

‎According to a report by Leadership, on Tuesday January 27, 2026, a former Deputy Governor of Niger State, Ahmed Mohammed Ketso, has described the decision of Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, to remain in the NNPP as a very sensitive issue, stating that the choice creates serious challenges for both governance and politics in Kano State.

‎Ketso explained that situations like this often go beyond personal relationships between leaders, he said even if the governor and his deputy try to work together peacefully, political associates and supporters may worsen the situation.

According to him, such interference can create suspicion, tension, and mistrust, which may later grow into open crisis, he noted that the governor and his deputy were elected on a joint ticket, because of this, their political separation raises questions about how the system should respond.

‎Ketso said attention would naturally turn to the Kano State House of Assembly and warned that lawmakers could decide to take steps that may lead to impeachment if the crisis deepens.

‎Drawing from his personal experience in government, Ketso said the deputy governor is in a very risky position, he added that if someone finds it difficult to follow the governor on matters of principle, resignation may be a safer option.

‎He stressed that this could prevent a situation where the legislature is pushed into removing the deputy from office.

‎“I do not know exactly what the Constitution says about this, but what I know is that they came in on a joint ticket.

The question is: what role will the House of Assembly play in all this? They may move towards the impeachment process.

‎If I were in that position, and based on principle I could not defect with the governor, I would rather resign before the House of Assembly is instigated to impeach me,” he said.
