Rivers: There’s A SAN, He Got 1M Sqm of Land, I’ll Show It If This Thing Does Not Stop – Ugochinyere

A member of the House of Representatives, Ikenga Ugochinyere, has strongly condemned the impeachment notice issued against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, by the Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly, describing the move as illegal, provocative, and driven by selfish interests rather than the welfare of the people of Rivers State.

Ugochinyere made the remarks in a video interview shared by TVC News, where he reacted to the deepening political crisis in the state.

He argued that the impeachment process being pushed by some lawmakers is not rooted in constitutional provisions but is instead being used as a tool to intimidate, blackmail, and destabilize the sitting governor.

According to the lawmaker, the actions of the Rivers State House of Assembly amount to an attempt by a few individuals to hold the state hostage for personal and political gain.

He said the situation gives the impression that Rivers people are being treated as though they are incapable of managing their own affairs, while certain powerful figures who once held influence are allegedly determined to retain control of the state from behind the scenes.

Ugochinyere questioned the legal justification for the impeachment notice, particularly the allegation that Governor Fubara failed to properly present an appropriation bill.

He explained that the National Assembly has already passed the Rivers State budget, making any further demand for another budget presentation unnecessary and unlawful.

“There is no basis in law for accusing the governor of not presenting a budget,” he said, stressing that impeachment cannot be built on an action that has already been constitutionally concluded.

According to him, insisting on another appropriation process is merely a contrived excuse designed to legitimize an otherwise illegal agenda.

The federal lawmaker also criticised the leadership of the ruling party for what he described as a troubling silence in the face of what he called a fresh attack on one of its governors.

He argued that the failure of party leaders to speak out sends the wrong signal and emboldens those seeking to undermine democratic institutions.

Ugochinyere further alleged that the impeachment plot is closely linked to personal benefits allegedly received by some of the political actors involved.

He claimed that certain party leaders and lawmakers pushing the process are doing so after allegedly receiving large land allocations, suggesting that the crisis is less about governance and more about material gain.

In one of his strongest allegations, Ugochinyere accused a Senior Advocate of Nigeria of benefiting massively from the situation.

He claimed that the lawyer acquired a vast expanse of land measuring one million square metres and warned that he would make evidence public if the impeachment push does not stop.

In his word: “There’s a particular lawyer, SAN, he got 1 million square meters of land. And I will show it if this thing does not stop,” Ugochinyere said, adding that the Rivers crisis is being fueled by backroom deals and personal enrichment rather than concern for the rule of law.

He warned that the continued escalation of the crisis could have serious consequences for peace and stability in Rivers State, urging political leaders to exercise restraint and respect constitutional boundaries.

According to him, allowing illegal actions to stand could weaken public trust in democracy and encourage political recklessness across the country.
