According to a report by Punch, on Saturday January 10, 2026, former Speaker of the House of Representatives and ex-Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has criticized the federal government for favoring certain regions over others.
He said the administration under President Bola Tinubu focuses more on the South-West, rather than addressing the needs of the entire South or the country as a whole.
He added that even within the South-West, Lagos State appears to receive more attention and resources than other states.
Tambuwal warned that this regional favoritism is creating deeper divisions and widening fault lines in the country.
He stressed the need for a government that represents all Nigerians fairly and ensures equal opportunities for every region.
He stated that such regional imbalances in government projects and appointments are causing growing concern among citizens.
Tambuwal noted that failing to address these divisions could weaken national unity and hinder development.
He stated that all regions should have equal access to federal opportunities, programs, and benefits.
He pointed out that addressing these issues is critical for the long-term growth of the country.
He criticised what he described as the current federal administration’s ethnic chauvinism.
“President Bola Tinubu is leaning more towards empowering the South-West, not even the South as a whole.
Even within the South-West, people say it is about his Lagos State. The existing fault lines are widening, and the President needs to run a truly Nigerian government,” he stated.
