Legal practitioner Liborous Oshoma has likened FCT Minister Nyesom Wike's struggle to maintain control in Rivers State to the transition of power between former Governors Peter Odili and Rotimi Amaechi, suggesting that Wike is finding it difficult to accept his diminished role.
Speaking in a recent interview with News Central TV, Oshoma invoked the famous "new cook in the kitchen" metaphor used by Amaechi when he assumed office as Rivers State governor.
"When Peter Odili was governor in Rivers State, the moment Rotimi Amaechi came in, Amaechi described it that there was a new cook in the kitchen.
And so the former governor should remember that, being a new cook in the kitchen, he can only advise when he's called to advise," he stated.
According to the legal practitioner, Wike's current predicament stems from his unwillingness to accept the natural transition of power that comes with a change in administration.
He stated that the FCT Minister is attempting to maintain an unprecedented level of control over Rivers State politics despite no longer being governor.
"So in this case, you have a godfather who wants to be larger than life, who wants to still control the levers of power.
And that's not easy for him now," Oshoma explained, pointing to the inherent difficulty in Wike's position as he struggles to maintain influence from outside the state government.
