During his tenure, the former governor of Lagos State and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Babatunde Raji Fashola, and his wife, Dame Abimbola Fashola, discussed trust, communication, and rumors.
The couple spoke in an interview on The Morayo Show, which was hosted by Afolabi-Brown Morayo and aired on Monday, February 2, 2026.
At one point in the discussion, the presenter questioned Mrs. Fashola about whether she ever felt threatened by rumors during her husband's tenure as governor.
"Were you ever threatened? Was there anything at all? " Morayo questioned. She frequently brought up common perceptions of political office. She said, "Particularly during your time as governor. "
Assumptions that are occasionally made about public officials were mentioned by Morayo. "Because, you know, when you are out there, you think, oh, the governor has a girlfriend," she explained.
She said, "Is he able to call? Fashola does not frighten me. I'm not scared. The host inquired frankly as to whether she was ever disturbed by such ideas.
“Did you ever feel threatened as governor that there are so many Fatimas and Khadijas around him? ” she questioned. She went on to say, "Or even Juliet and Sarah. " Every one of those aunts. Did you ever get any threats?
Mrs. Fashola, in retaliation, rejected the proposal. "Not in the slightest. " Not in the slightest. Never. Not at all. Not in the slightest. "Never," she replied. At no time, she insisted, did she experience insecurity.
Nonetheless, Mrs. Fashola shared a story she had heard from relatives about a rumor. "However, I heard a story," she stated.
She said that her sisters had come to her with accusations regarding her spouse. "And it was my sisters who came in and said, oh, they said your husband has another family in Magodo," she remarked.
The allegation elicited a response from Mrs. Fashola. "And I said, Magodo," she stated.
"That they usually see him every day," she said. I exclaimed, "Ah, ah. " My partner. " The accusation, she said, did not bother her.
"Don't worry," she said. Open communication in her marriage, according to Mrs. Fashola, was the reason for her composed reaction. “And because both of us, the relationship we share, there’s nothing we don’t say to one another,” she stated.
She stressed that they are transparent about everything. "Nothing. " She stated, "There's no, there's no simple, there's no hard, we communicate.
"She described her decision on how to approach the rumor. "Therefore, I remained silent for a little bit," she stated.
She also said she followed spiritual advice. “And most times when I hear things like that, I wait for the Holy Spirit to guide me,” she said.
Later, according to Mrs. Fashola, she brought up the subject to her husband. “So when the Holy Spirit said, you can ask him,” she stated. She remembered approaching him directly. “Therefore, I uttered, ah, come.”
They claim that you have another family in Magodo that you visit regularly," she stated. She said that Mr. Fashola refuted the accusation. "He said, Magodo," she said.
She went on to quote his answer. "So, how many times have I been to Magodo? " perhaps while campaigning.
She said, "I haven't been to Magodo. " According to Mrs. Fashola, she shared the answer with her sisters.
She continued, "Therefore, I informed my sisters," she said. She went on to say that her spouse inquired as to the origin of the assertion.
"And who said that? " he asked me, she said. "I said it's my sisters," she retorted. My sisters told me.
The issue, she stated, came to a conclusion there. "But I told her not to worry. I've already answered them, she said. The rumor was refuted by Mrs. Fashola.
"Therefore, it's all hearsay," she stated. She reaffirmed her stance in her conclusion. "Thus, I've never been threatened," she stated.
